Hi Everyone!
So this week a family member (not me) had a Scary Medical Thing we needed to get taken care of. Everyone is fine, and we actually have really good insurance now (I’ll talk about this at some point; it was an amazing, positive and bizarre experience having it) but apparently I’m a little emotionally weak in a way where it took a lot out of me worrying about it. I’m a little bit mentally exhausted.
So while I wanted to write articles about the appropriate amount of pity to have for Incels and about Generic-Brand Protestant Christianity as seen from the inside, I’m finding I don’t have the mental bandwidth to do it. This has been especially so since I have a new job and an interesting side job that I really want to avoid neglecting.
With that said, I do crave feedback to an absurd degree. So I’d like to open up the comments - if there’s something you’d like me to write about/not write about as much or changes you think might be interesting, let me know. I can’t guarantee I’ll do it, but I try to take a craftsman-like reader-is-the-customer approach to things and it’s a lot easier to do if I know what you all are enjoying so far.
Thank you so much, and I’ll see you next week!
A Week Off: Feedback and Idea Request
Glad to hear about the insurance RC! You mentioned in your blog about being poor (excellent job btw) that you'd been teaching yourself SQL and had managed it to a pretty good level. I too have this desire, but a blog about your approach to learning skills such as this (e.g. good for career, but probably not a passion) would be good. Maybe it's a bit Tim Ferriss-ey for this space but I found this an interesting aside I'd love to hear more about.
some potentially interesting topics: psychedelics, virus mitigation steps as performance art, maybe there's not enough "toxic masculinity" in our lives (read this navel-gazing claptrap and tell me you don't agree https://www.theatlantic.com/culture/archive/2021/04/dark-side-houseplant-boom-nature-empathy/618638/)
